appearance: Hotaru has long black hair and startingly stark eyes. She has a lean figure that makes it seem as if she is malnourished, but she is in much better health than she was as a child. Everything about Hotaru has a deep somber feel to it and being such she tends to only wear darker colors. The style of her clothing is very conservative and it is rare she is seen in anything revealing. Always on her person, usually fastened to her hip, Hotaru wears her sailor scout broach.

Hotaru's appearance in her sailor scout costume is different than it was when she was younger, mostly because of the sudden change in her mental status and her current involvement with Umbraregnum. Instead of her normal purple scout outfit, Hotaru wears a long flowing black dress that has a sheen of purple when the sun hits it just right. There are slits up the sides and it is very form fitting. The sleeves of her dress look torn and battered, falling just past her elbows in shreds. Adorning her chest is the cruel form of a dark star that seems barbed and dangerous. The staff that Hotaru normally carried is almost the same, other than the adornment of the same barbed star just near the blade at the top.

personality: Once a fearful shy child, Hotaru is now a tool and acts as such. Devoid of almost all of her personality, Hotaru doesn't feel much beyond the occasional thrill of succeeding on a mission that she is sent on. Hotaru has no real memory of what it was like to be who she was before and she often acts cruelly in the few moments she shows any form of emotion.

Her current personalities are much like those that she exhibited when she became Mistress 9. Unforgiving, violent, and uncaring, Hotaru will do anything she is commanded and not feel bad about any of it.
history: Souichi Tomoe, Hotaru's father, shaped much of her history in his dark science experiments. In one fatal experiment Hotaru's mother was killed and Hotaru herself gained a mysterious illness that kept her very restrained as a young child. It was a miracle that she survived, though it was only attained through a cybernetic body and Souichi's dark deal with Pharaoh 90. Through that deal Souichi tried to use new powers to revive Hotaru only to lose his humanity. With the overwhelming strength Hotaru gained in becoming Sailor Saturn she tried to destroy the world, but is stopped by sailor moon and reborn in hopes of having a more pleasant life. In her reborn life she is gifted with a pleasant childhood and grows quickly back to about the age she was before being reborn, only a young teen. Hotaru was gifted with a loving adoptive family, Haruka Tenoh, Michiru Kaioh and Setsuna Meioh. These three are also outer Senshi and they all become very close.

Unfortunately more darkness was lurking in Hotaru's future. After growing a bit more, finally becoming an adult of 18, Hotaru gets caught up in an evil scheme by the leader of Umbraregnum. After being kidnapped with all of the other Senshi she became a test subject. After what felt like an eternity, Hotaru's powers were realized and taken advantage of. Currently she has only the fog outline of memories in terms of her past. Hotaru does not understand life, why she is where she is, or why she is doing what Umbraregnum tells her to, but a certain indescribable fear keeps her moving.
